When a machine starts fine with jumper cables but won't crank on its own, people usually replace the battery — sometimes multiple times. Professional Diagnosis
The test that reveals a charging problem is measuring voltage at the battery terminals while the engine is running. A battery that charges while running but dies overnight has a parasitic drain. A battery that doesn't charge while running has a charging system problem. These require different repairs.
