UTV Winch Installation — Done Right
A winch is only as useful as its installation. A winch mounted to a weak bumper, wired directly to the battery with undersized cables, or installed without proper routing and protection is a liability — not an asset. We install winches the right way: proper mounting to a winch-rated bumper or plate, correct gauge wiring with a disconnect or solenoid, proper cable routing away from heat sources, and a fairlead appropriate for the rope or cable type.
What We Inspect
- Mounting point strength — is the bumper rated for the winch's pull capacity?
- Battery capacity — can it handle winch draw without damaging the charging system?
- Cable gauge for the winch's amperage draw at rated load
- Fairlead type (roller for wire cable, Hawse for synthetic rope)
- Solenoid and control switch routing
- Cable routing away from heat sources and sharp edges

A winch that pulls 3,000 lbs can draw over 300 amps at rated load. Undersized wiring overheats and can start a fire. We size the wiring to the winch and route it safely.
